CrossFit Per Aruda was formed in 2012 as Cape Breton’s little CrossFit box, we are 100% CrossFit Affiliated. We occupy a 2400sq.ft commercial space in Sydney River, with everything you possibly need for CrossFit. We have up to 8 classes per day with 5 very experienced coaches and trainers ready to help you achieve your goals.
At present, owner and head coach Scott McIntyre, Helen Prentice-McIntyre, Adam Hanna, Keely Wadden and Kurt Boone run all coaching and classes.
Having been involved in gyms, fitness, nutrition for 18 years Scott absolutely believes that CrossFit is by and far the best fitness, strength, muscle building physical training you can do, not to mention the most fun. CrossFit boxes are growing at a crazy rate, there are over 3500 CrossFit boxes worldwide and they are growing every single day! CrossFit however is not a franchise. It is a license agreement called affiliation. CrossFit doesn’t control us, they give us no input on what we do, how we do it or the hours we keep. We have no business connection to any other CrossFit box, but we are similar in many ways.
WHAT YOU WILL NOTICE
In our box you will notice a few things compared to normal gyms. No TVs, no treadmills, no tanning beds, no mirrors. We do things very different than you expect or what you are used to. You will fit in, we promise. There are no cliques here, nor do we want them, you will experience what the Per Ardua family is all about once you start.
You will build confidence here. One of the big things in CrossFit is the foundation of confidence that you will build, like we said, egos don’t fly here, they get checked at the door, everyone is here to help. Recently Scott asked a member to name one thing outside of the CrossFit box that they physically can’t do. The reply was “grow to be 6 feet tall”. That sums it up perfectly.
WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?
Aside from the demand of being asked on a daily basis to help and train people, it’s plain and simple, the want and need to help people. CrossFit will change your entire life, your fitness will improve more than you can imagine. You have only one body, use it!
WHAT WE EXPECT IN THE BOX
100% of your effort every time you enter, no excuses. Positive attitudes. Always arrive at least 5-10 minutes before your scheduled class time, this is very important. However, we know how life is, if you are late, that’s better than not showing up at all, your training will be modified to use the time you have available.
If you don’t feel well, stay home, but let us know. You can spread your flu/cold/whatever really easy in a gym. No one wants to get sick!
Please have respect for your coach and your fellow members. Show your fellow members support, it will be contagious and they will show you the same. Not everyone will be at the same level and that is totally ok, it is the way it works. Somedays you will have a bad day, and sometimes you will be on point. Always remember your peers. Be a team player. It is better than putting on an ipod and being totally antisocial, CrossFit is about community and you will love the change!
Sometimes you won’t understand or agree with your coach, that’s ok, they made whatever decision based on a reason. Just do it, trust us. You can do it.
COACHES & TRAINERS
We are people just like you, with the same goals and aspirations. We have full time jobs, children, schedules, and deadlines. We became CrossFitters because, like you reading this, you want something more, you want to take your life someplace it is not. You want more, you want ripped abs, or you just want to be able to play with your children and run around longer. CrossFit adds value to our lives. Everyday is a challenge, everyday is spent thinking about how we can make our lives better inside and outside of the box. Once you finish the workout, you’ve won. Your time, rounds or reps don’t matter unless you want them to. Compete with yourself everyday, or others and reap the benefits.
